Last time we started looking at bad advice about how to have a good marriage.  Here’s another one:

“Happy couples are friends first.”  Now there is an important germ of truth in this.  It’s a fact that most happily married people are friends as well as lovers.  The more ways you can connect, the better.  And friendship is an important dimension.

But what good does it do to tell a couple that, gee, their relationship would have been so much better if they’d started out as friends?  What can they do about it now?

What about you?  Can you think of some useless or stupid advice you’ve gotten for how to have a good marriage?
